Hiking: Jebel Jais

Jebel Jais / Jabal Jais – a mountain in North-Western Hajar Mountains, in Ras al Khaimah emirate, the highest point in the UAE (around 1892-1910 m). The top of the mountain (1934 m) is located in Musandam Governorate in Oman. Therefore the highest peak of UAE is nearby Jebal Al Mebrah / Jabal Ybir (1527 m).

The temperature at Jebel Jais is lower than in lower parts of the UAE. During winter months, not every year howerever, there is snow on Jebel Jais.

At Jebel Jais slope on UAE side there is Jais Adventure Peak with:

  • Jebel Jais Flight – the world’s longest zipline (2832 m), it will take you 2-3 minutes to go down from 1680 m with the speed up to 150 km/h, opened in February 2018;
  • Jais Sky Tour;
  • Jais Sky Maze.

On the way to the top there are many view points and few observation decks – and next to the last one – at 1484 m – there is the highest located restaurant in UAE: “1484 by Puro”.

In the area of Jebel Jais there are 6 hiking trails (5 in lower part, 1 in upper part). You can dowlaoad the trail maps here.

Moving dunes

Słowiński National Park (Słowiński Park Narodowy) – a national park on the Baltic coast in Pomeranian, Poland. UNESCO biosphere reserve – Man and the Biosphere Programme (since 1977) and a Ramsar site (The Słowiński Wetlands – since 1995). Established in 1967 to preserve in the unchangeable beauty, the system of seaside lakes (Łebsko, Gardno, Dolgie Wielkie), bogs, peatbogs, meadows, seaside woods and forests, but first of all, to maintain a dune belt of spits with moving dunes, unique in Europe.* Thanks to the wind and waves the dunes (some of them 30 m high) “move” with with the speed 3-10 m per year.

The name of the Słowiński National Park comes from Polish “Słowińcy” – Slovincians, a West Slavic tribe who was living in that area.
