Kruidnoten and taaipop

Kruidnoten and taaipop are Dutch delicacies eaten during the Sinterklaas (patron of children) celebrations (witch start on 5th December – St. Nicholas’ Eve – with giving of gifts) in Netherlands and in Belgium.

Kruidnoten – small and round, biscuits, made with similar ingredients as speculaas, including: pepper, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cardamom and nutmeg. Taaipop is a cookie made of taai-taai (taai means tough) – tough and chewy dough – in a shape of Sinterklaas.

Levant in Dubai

Delicacies from Levantine cuisine in Dubai, and in Umm Al Quwain, UAE:

  • warm lentil bowl;
  • muhammara (roasted red pepper and walnut dip), moukhallal (pickles) and quinoa & feta cheese salad;
  • mixed grill platter;
  • fish saiyadieh – fish and rice dish with Mediterranean spices.
