The Empty Quarter – Rub’ al Khali – desert seen from Tal Moreeb, one of the highest dunes in the world, considered to be the tallest one in the United Arab Emirates.
The Rub’ al Khali – a part of Arabian Desert – 1,000 km long, 500 km wide, with thae area of 650,000 km², covering parts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE and Yemen.
Tal Moreeb and Rub’ al Khali are filming locations for many movies: Dune (2020), 6 Underground (2019), Race 3 (2018), Furious 7 (2015).

Beautiful. It is rare to have landscapes nowadays that have nothing obstructing or littering the view of electricity posts, wind turbines etc.

Goodness, that’s a lot of sand.
Are there reasons for some dunes to be so tall compared to others that are nearby? Like an under-sand shelf creating a disruption?

That I’m not sure about… But I learned recently that Beduins know their position by the colour and shape of surrounding dunes. What is more, dunes form at 90 degrees to the prevailing wind…
