An introduction to Icelandic cuisine:

  • dried fish with butter – a traditional Icelandic snack,
  • smoked lamb carpaccio with blueberries,

  • seafood soup – langoustine, scallops and salmon,
  • fish and chips – deep fried cod and tartar sauce,
  • traditional Icelandic plokkari (onion, milk, potato, cod),

  • Þorskhnakki / thorskhnakki (cod),
  • saltfiskhnakki (salted cod),
  • baked salmon,
  • smoked salmon open sandwich,
  • lobster pizza.

Along Ring Road in Northwestern Region (Norðurland; biggest town: Sauðárkrókur) and in Western Region (Vesturland; biggest town: Akranes, capital: Borgarnes) in the north-west part of Iceland.

Vatnsdalshólar: Water-valley-hillocks

Vatnsdalshólar (Water-valley-hillocks) – cone-like hillocks in Húnavatnssýsla district of Iceland (Northwestern Region – Norðurland vestra), easy to see from the Ring Road. Most of them are on the south side of the road, on the north side there is Þrístapar / Thristapar (Triple Hillocks), with a few hillocks. It is the place of the last execution in Iceland (12th January 1830).
