Dyrhólaey and Kirkjufjara beach

Dyrhólaey (called by seamen as Cape Portland or Blow Hole) – a small peninsula, with a large, natural gate in its south part, the Dyrhólaey Lighthouse (from 1927) on top (120 m) and broad views. The southernmost point in mainland Iceland, located near Vík village (Southern Region). Dyrhólaey is a nesting place for cliff birds (among them: puffins).
Dyrhólaey means door hill island in Icelandic – that peninsula used to be an island (volcanic origin).
