Citadel of Qaitbay in Alexandria was established in in 1477 by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa’it Bay, on Pharos Island – on the site of Lighthouse of Alexandria (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), which was completely destroyed in 14th century.
The citadel is one of the most important defensive strongholds at the Mediterranean Sea coast.
