Bibliotheca Alexandrina – Library of Alexandria – major library and cultural center, completed in 2002, in commemoration of the Great Library of Alexandria (the largest in the acient world).
With shelf space for eight million books and the main reading room of 20,000 square metres the library complex, build in a shape of rising sun, includes also six specialized libraries, conference center, four museums, art galleries, a planetarium and a manuscript restoration laboratory.

Alexandria: Serapeum and Pompey’s Pillar

Pompey’s Pillar, a triumphal Corinthian column at Serapeum of Alexandria (an ancient Greek temple dedicated to Serapis, the protector of Alexandria). The Roman column originally supported a colossal porphyry statue of augustus Diocletian (created between 298-302 AD) and was mistakenly associated with general Pompey the Great.

Alexandria: Citadel of Qaitbay

Citadel of Qaitbay in Alexandria was established in in 1477 by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa’it Bay, on Pharos Island – on the site of Lighthouse of Alexandria (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), which was completely destroyed in 14th century.
The citadel is one of the most important defensive strongholds at the Mediterranean Sea coast.
